Jay Leno Back Home from Overnight Hospital Stay
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on April 30, 2009 – 1:39 pm -
Jay Leno is resting back home after his mysterious overnight stay in the hospital last week for “observation purposes only.” But, will this funny-man be able to keep America laughing upon his return? Only time will tell!
Jay was born in New York in 1950 to two immigrant parents: a filmmaker mother and father in showbiz. He attended high school in Andover, Massachusetts and earned a bachelor’s degree in speech therapy from Emerson College despite his high school counselor’s recommendation that he drop out.
The beginning of his career was marked by his roles in TV commercials such as Doritos, and by the late 1970s he was
opening for acts such as Johnny Mathis and John Denver. The comedian’s biggest break came when he substituted for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show from 1987 until he took over the show in 1992, never giving up his natural talent as a stand-up comic.
Although his role as host of The Tonight Show is coming to an end in May 2009, his involvement as an NBC Network icon will remain with other projects in the works.
Although Jay Leno is not famous for his small movie roles, he’ll always be remembered as the funny, large-jawed lover of automobiles way beyond his years as a comedian.

Is Miley Cyrus’ Boyfriend Too Much Like Her Dad?
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on April 20, 2009 – 11:49 am -
Call it coincidence, or just sticking with what you know, speculation abounds that Miley’s 20-year-old boyfriend (underwear model Justin Gaston) is a younger version of her dear ol’ dad. But, that doesn’t stop this teen idol from making headlines with her music, television, and now big-screen movie career!
Born Destiny Hope Cyrus, this middle daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus quickly earned the nickname Smiley, shortened to Miley, thanks to her sunny disposition. By the time she was nine, she began taking acting classes at the Armstrong Acting Studio in Toronto, Canada. Though Billy Ray may have tried to keep her out of the spotlight, wanting her to enjoy just being a kid, Miley couldn’t resist and soon marked her career as an actress with a guest role on her father’s TV series Doc.
A few acting roles in movies and music videos later, her audition for Disney’s Hannah Montana truly marked her star in Hollywood at only 12 years old. Ironically, she was originally turned down for the series, but thanks to her persistence, was called back for further auditions, which eventually landed her the career-making role.
Miley naturally has marked herself as a singer as well, releasing a solo album (doubled with a part II of the Hannah Montana soundtrack) and recently made her way back to the big screen with her movie Hannah Montana: The Movie and Bolt.

Do you approve of this 16-year-old actress dating a 20-year-old guy?

Ben Affleck for President?
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on April 16, 2009 – 5:37 pm -
He surely has Rachel McAdams’ vote! He’s certainly not the first actor to put on his or her political hat and back the candidate of his choice, but co-star of State of Play McAdams thinks Ben would be just as good in the running.
This actor, film director, and screenwriter was born in Berkeley, CA, but moved with his family to Cambridge, Massachusetts at a young age. As a child actor, he landed a role on a PBS kids’ series as well as a handful of made-for-TV movies.
It was at age 10 that he met Matt Damon, when they attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School together. After high school, Ben attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, as well as the University of Vermont.
Ben’s big screen debut was made in the 1992 flick School Ties, which lead to many notable movies, but his career-defining moment came with the movie Good Will Hunting (1997). Ben and Matt received the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, which seemed to give both actors the foothold they needed in Hollywood.
He’s since moved on to many big movie roles, scored several awards, directed films, opened his own production company, and voices his political views openly. There is no doubt that Ben Affleck has no intention of being pigeonholed as “just an actor.”
Next stop, Washington, D.C.?

Lindsay Lohan Single Again
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on April 13, 2009 – 11:55 am -Lindsay Lohan reports to US Weekly magazine that she’s not taking the break-up with her partner of two years well, as she continues to party away the pain… a long cry from her debut as the star of the movie-remake, Parent Trap!
At age three, Lindsay started her career as a model with Ford Models, appearing in more than 100 print ads before her next stop on television commercials. Her TV commercial success landed her a role in the soap opera Another World by age 10, which she gave up at age 12 to star as estranged twin sisters in the remake of Disney’s Parent Trap.
Lindsay did a few made-for-TV movies, along with a couple of sitcom appearances, but her rise to fame truly came with another Disney remake, Freaky Friday. Although followed by successful Hollywood films, Lindsay’s personal life began to taint her image in the media. She began to take independent film roles while fueling the fires of her negative media attention with two DUIs. Throughout all of this, she signed a record deal with Casablanca, and eventually switched to Motown Records by Universal Music Group.
We all hope for the best for Lindsay, but it’s hard not to wonder where her parental guidance was while she continued to make bad decisions for herself. Perhaps a victim of being her own worst enemy, yet Lindsay will surely stay in the limelight one way or another.
Do you think Lindsay’s parents are responsible for her rebellious behavior?

Demi Moore: Actress or Therapist?
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on April 5, 2009 – 10:14 pm -
Demi Moore had to make a quick decision regarding a follower’s suicide threat on her Twitter account, but thanks to her response, Demi’s band of Twitter followers were able to contact the Tweeter’s local police department and come to her aid before anything happened. Who knew being a star meant being a therapist, too!
Long before Twitter, Demetria “Demi” Gene Guynes was born in Roswell, New Mexico in 1962. After surviving a rough childhood, Demi’s family moved to L.A. in 1976 where she attended Fairfax High School in Hollywood. By age 16, she dropped out of high school to pursue acting, making her on-screen debut in the 3-D cult-classic Parasite.
Her true claim to fame came when she held a role in the ABC soap opera General Hospital, leading to roles in films such as St. Elmo’s Fire and About Last Night. But Demi will likely be most commonly known for her role in the movie Ghost.
The movie roles that followed blessed her with the honor of becoming the first actress to reach the $10 million salary mark, paving the way for other A-list actresses in Hollywood. She has three daughters with ex-husband Bruce Willis, and currently is enjoying married life with husband/actor Ashton Kutcher.

Britney Spears Voicemail to Lawyer: Real or Hoax?
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on April 1, 2009 – 1:27 pm -Whether or not you believe that the voicemail recording making its way around the Internet is really the voice of Britney Spears, there’s no arguing that Brit’s stardom has made a comeback.
Before the shaved head, bad behavior, and drama, this Louisiana native was an accomplished gymnast, performed in dance revues, and sang in her church choir. At eight years old, Britney joined NY City’s Professional Performing Arts School.
Shortly after, she auditioned for The New Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney channel. Although a little young for the series, the audition landed her an agent and several appearances in a number of off-Broadway productions. By age 11, Britney was seeing stars as a contestant of the television show Star Search, and earned her spot on The New Mickey Mouse Club with fellow co-stars Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera.
- The year 1997 proved to be a busy year for this pop princess as she briefly joined the group Innosence before signing her own solo deal with Jive Records. She has since headlined concerts while continuing to make celeb-buzz headlines, proving that even when life brings you down, your career can still make a comeback. Do you think that Britney’s personal life has affect her record sales?
