Justin Timberlake Makes Headlines with His Own Design
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on May 28, 2009 – 3:35 pm -
Justin Timberlake proved he’s no stranger to fashion when he arrived with girlfriend Jessica Biel at the Met’s Costume Institute Gala wearing his own design, William Rast. From recording artist to fashion founder, is there anything that JT doesn’t do?
Born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Shelby Forest, Tennessee, Justin dipped his toe into the singing world with his appearance on Star Search, a television program aimed at finding the next big star. By 1993, he joined The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse with famous castmates Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and JC Chasez. When the show ended, Justin and JC joined the boy band that became known as ‘N Sync.
The band’s albums broke music sales records, but this third-best-selling boy band in history never officially disbanded. As ‘N Sync went on hiatus, Justin’s solo career continued to skyrocket. Justin’s acting debut came during his time with the band in the Disney Channel movie Model Behavior.
After JT’s Super Bowl “wardrobe malfunction” with Janet Jackson, he put his recording career on hold to appear in such films as Alpha Dog, Black Snake Moan, and others before refocusing on his music career. By 2005, he launched his own record company called JayTee Records. From collaboration with top artists, to writing and performing his own hits, to pulling in laughs while hosting Saturday Night Live, Justin Timberlake proves time and time again that his star isn’t going to stop shining anytime soon.
Who do you think is the most successful former Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cast member: Justin, Britney, or Christina?

Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on May 26, 2009 – 1:22 pm -
Arnold Schwarzenegger may not be starring in the latest Terminator movie, but this former teen body-builder is no stranger to fame.
Born in Thal, Austria, Arnold Schwarzenegger started body-building at age 13, officially starting his competitive career at 17 years old. After fulfilling a required one year of service in the Austrian army, he went on to win the Junior Mr. Europe contest at only 18 years old.
While securing his celebrity through multiple body-building competition wins around the world, he attended business school and made his move to the United States at the age of 21.
Arnold continued his training at Gold’s Gym, then made his move into acting when he landed a role in Hercules in New York. His breakthrough role was in Conan the Barbarian, and The Terminator movie series secured his stardom in Hollywood.
Arnold eventually turned his eye to politics and his first political appointment as chairman of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports eventually lead to his 2003 run, and eventual win, for Governor of California.
Whether a fan of his body-building, movies, or politics, there’s no question that Arnold is an icon for our times.

Sarah Jessica Parker Fears for Safety of Surrogate
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on May 20, 2009 – 4:30 pm -
The surrogate carrying twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick has been receiving a lot of unwanted attention. From receiving threats, to her computer being hacked into, what’s happening to this woman is giving Sarah cause for concern about the surrogate’s well being and the effects it may have on her unborn peas in the pod.
And so the paparazzi blitz begins before the children are even born. But what about their famous mom? Born in Nelsonville, Ohio, future fashion icon Sarah got her own start in show biz by training in singing and ballet. Her first taste in the spotlight came early as she was cast in the Broadway show The Innocents. Sarah also appeared on stage in The Sound of Music and Annie.
Will her babies-to-be have a future as baby models? Or, will her son, age six, light up the big screen as a future child star? If they follow the path of their famous mother, they should have no problem making their way in Hollywood.
She gained her education and training attending the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, the School of American Ballet, the Professional Children’s School, Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, CA, and Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, New Jersey. Her talents landed her a co-lead in the TV show Square Pegs, followed two years later by her big-screen debut in Footloose.
As Sarah’s label as a movie actress finally seemed permanent following several movie roles, Sex and the City creator Darren Star was determined to cast Sarah as the lead role in his HBO series. She finally agreed, and even became a producer for the show in the third season. Her move back to TV earned her an Emmy Award in 2004 for her role as Carrie Bradshaw.
From stage actress, to TV actress, to movie star, to fashion icon, there’s no telling where Sarah Jessica Parker’s star will take her… or her cute kids!
How did you rate the Sex and the City movie compared to the series?

Brad Pitt Wows the Women of Long Island
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on May 15, 2009 – 1:26 am -
If husbands in Long Island are wondering why their wives have been taking that extra step to get dolled up just to drop the kids off at school or run to the grocery store, it’s surely because Brad Pitt is in town. Playing Mr. Mom in town while Angelina Jolie is shooting her latest movie on location, Brad is keeping the women of Long Island on their A game.
Before he was a handsome hunk, Brad was a cute kid in Springfield, Missouri. He attended Kickapoo High School where he shined on the golf, tennis, and swimming teams, yet still had time to belong to the Key and Forensics clubs. Perhaps his draw to the acting world was sparked by his participation in musicals for his high school, yet he attended the University of Missouri where he majored in journalism. His roles in his fraternity’s shows inspired him to leave just two weeks shy of earning his degree to move to Los Angeles to take acting lessons.
Young Pitt studied with the legendary acting coach Roy London in L.A., which paid off less than two years later when he made his television debut with guest appearances on the soap opera Dallas. Soon after, with several TV credits under his belt, he made his film debut in the movie Dark Side of the Sun. But, it was his role in Thelma and Louise that really gave this actor his Hollywood status.
With films like A River Runs Through It and Legends of the Fall to follow, his status was officially set as Hollywood elite. Whether you’re a fan of Fight Club or just can’t resist this father of six, there’s no doubt that Brad Pitt indeed deserves the attention from women that he seems to get!
Who’s your favorite Mr. Mom in Hollywood right now?

Kiefer Sutherland Turns Himself In to NYPD
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on May 11, 2009 – 11:19 am -
Kiefer Sutherland made headlines recently when he turned himself in for allegedly head-butting a designer at an after-party earlier this week, allegedly in defense of Brooke Shields. Before this 24 star hit headlines — again — for this unusual incident, he was best known for his acting.
His parents are the illustrious Canadian-born actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, but Kiefer and his twin sister were born in London, England. He lived briefly in Corona, California, but spent his adolescence through his high school years living in Canada and attending several schools there. He held roles in a few TV series, but his first American big-screen debut came to him in the movie Stand by Me. Appearing in more than 70 films through 2008, this headlining hunk has definitely left his mark on Hollywood.
It can’t be easy being in the spotlight 24/7, but should actors/actresses be given a break for their actions/overreactions?

Hot-bod Julia Roberts Still Has It After Three Children
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on May 7, 2009 – 1:13 am -
This week, Julia Roberts was photographed on the beaches of Hawaii with her husband and three kids, toned and beautiful as ever. Before this mega-mommy hit the big screen, she made her way into the hearts of fans like most actors — climbing the ladder with hard work and determination.
Daughter of two parents who ran an acting school for children, acting was bound to be in Julia’s blood. After graduating from Campbell High School in Georgia where she played the clarinet, she joined her sister in New York to pursue a career in acting
She signed with Click modeling agency and enrolled in acting classes, eventually making her film debut opposite her brother Eric in Blood Red. A few minor television appearances later (including Sesame Street), her first Hollywood attention-getting role was in Mystic Pizza. Julia also held several other career-boosting roles in movies such as Steel Magnolias (her first Oscar nomination) and Pretty Woman (her second Oscar nomination).
Now, as one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood, Julia Roberts seems to know how to balance her career with her home life, proving that you truly can have it all.
Do you think it’s possible for actresses to properly balance their careers with their families?

Prince Opens Up in Interview Last Week
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on May 4, 2009 – 10:10 am -
Prince opened up about his childhood in an interview on PBS (on April 27 and 28), sharing that his memories weren’t always golden. Teased as a child, Prince took advantage of the piano his father left behind when he split and became the rock icon we know today.
Prince was born Prince Rogers Nelson in 1958, and used his troubled family life as an inspiration to teach himself music. Prince attended the Minnesota Dance Theatre but, in high school, he and a friend joined a band with Prince’s cousin called Grand Central. With Prince’s initial role on piano and guitar, and eventually vocals, he then began producing the arrangements for the band.
The band Grand Central eventually evolved into Champagne and, by 1976, he made a demo tape with producer Chris Moon. Moon, who introduced him to Owen Husney of The High Spirits, helped Prince produce a high-quality demo and helped him start contacting major labels. Eventually, Warner Bros. Records signed the star we know today.
Do you think music classes should be made more available in school for troubled kids such as Prince?
