George Clooney Moving from Warner Brothers to Sony
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on July 29, 2009 – 11:37 pm -
George Clooney is in final talks to move his production company Smoke House Pictures to Sony, but some speculate that the fit is a bit strange. Can this actor, writer, director, and producer pull it off? Fans of George Clooney are certainly rooting for him!
Born in Lexington, Kentucky, George is the son of a pageant queen and American Movie Classics host. His education was that of a “normal” child, although his exposure to his father’s career might have given him a nudge in the acting direction. He attended Blessed Sacrament School in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, but also attended St. Michael’s School in Columbus, Ohio, and St. Susanna School in Mason, Ohio. Beating a serious physical ailment in middle school, he moved to Augusta, Kentucky, to attend Augusta High School. Soon after, he did not make the cut when he tried out for the Cincinnati Reds baseball team. He attended both Northern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati but did not earn a diploma from either.
George broke into acting, landing various TV roles on such shows as E/R (the sitcom), Roseanne, and The Facts of Life, but, it was his role as Dr. Doug Ross on the television show ER that gained him the most acclaim (and made his haircut a partial celebrity as well). He went on to his first big screen role in From Dusk ‘Til Dawn, and even now owns his own production companies, Mirador Entertainment and Smoke House Pictures.
George Clooney’s film success will likely be positively marked by his roles in the Oceans Eleven movie and its sequels. But, then again, who could forget one of the only men voted the “Sexiest Man Alive” TWICE by People Magazine?
Do you want to see George Clooney more behind the camera, or keeping his dreamy smile front and center?

Leonardo DiCaprio to Co-produce Twilight Zone Movie
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on July 27, 2009 – 11:01 pm -
Looks like Leonardo DiCaprio is a lover of the classics. He, along with Jennifer Davisson Killoran, will co-produce a big-screen movie version of the classic Twilight Zone TV series, slated to hit theaters in 2011. Leonardo recently co-produced the movie Orphan, in theaters now, with Killoran, but before he was a producer, he made his way into Hollywood the old-fashioned way: acting.
Leonardo was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, attending Seeds Elementary School, and had the same interests as most boys his age. When he took an interest in acting, he began his career in several commercials and educational films, but soon broke into television with a series based on the movie Parenthood. He continued his TV career with several small parts in shows like Roseanne and Growing Pains, but made his big-screen debut with the B-movie Critters 3.
It wasn’t until his performance in This Boy’s Life and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape that he really began turning heads in Tinseltown. Once he played Jack Dawson in Titanic, it seems his status in stardom was set.
Both Leonardo’s early works and more recent projects have repeatedly earned him Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, and he continues to evolve his career with more recent production projects. At only 34-years-old, it seems like the world (or at least Hollywood), is Leonardo’s oyster.

What do you think about classics being remade? Should Leo leave good enough alone?

Chace Crawford Tops Hottest Bachelor List
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on July 23, 2009 – 10:26 am -
This year, People Magazine named Chace Crawford 2009’s “Hottest Bachelor” at only 23 years old. As this Gossip Girl star rapidly approaches his 24th birthday, will he stay single for long?
Born Christopher Chace Crawford, this Plano, Texas-raised cutie moved to Malibu, California after graduating from Trinity Christian Academy high school to attend Pepperdine University. Although he dabbled in teen modeling in Dallas, he majored in broadcast journalism. But, wavering between career paths, his school-teacher mother encouraged him to pursue acting based on a career aptitude test he took in high school. Chace’s mother must have seen something in him, because he was signed by the first talent agent that interviewed him.
Chace landed his first gig in a TV movie Long Lost Son, leading to his film debut in The Covenant. He soon became well-known in his leading role in the TV show Gossip Girl. He continues to do movies and
occasional other TV appearances, earning him the “Choice TV Breakout Star Male” award at the Teen Choice Awards and allowing him to use his celebrity to endorse charitable causes.
Will you encourage your cute kid to finish school or find his or her way to Hollywood?

Model Cindy Crawford Steps Out with Her Kids
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on July 19, 2009 – 9:39 pm -
Cindy Crawford may not be hitting the runway these days as a supermodel, but this super mom was spotted recently in Los Angeles with her two children who obviously got the cute kid gene. Could they both grow up to follow in their mother’s modeling footsteps?
Cindy was born in DeKalb, Illinois, where she wasn’t discovered for her beauty until she was 16 years old. A newspaper photographer snapped her photo during her summer job detasseling corn, which earned her enough positive feedback to convince her to take up teen modeling. Winning runner-up in the Elite Model Management’s Look of the Year contest at just 17 years old, the Elite modeling agency in Chicago swooped up this beauty-marked babe immediately.
Cindy graduated DeKalb High School as valedictorian, but her academic scholarship to study chemical engineering at Northwestern University just didn’t win over modeling. She only attended one quarter before dropping out to pursue a full-time modeling career. She took up work with photographer Victor Skrebneski, but eventually signed with Elite New York modeling agency in Manhattan.
This 5-foot 9-inch former teen model quickly hit supermodel status as she landed magazine covers, runways, and fashion campaigns. She also appeared in several TV and movie roles, and even has a line of home furnishings and a line of beauty products. She retired from modeling in 2000, but still manages to rank at the top of the most sexy, beautiful, and hot lists.
Weigh in: Cindy Crawford’s beauty mark – sexy or distracting?

Vince Vaughn Always Gets the Laughs
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on July 15, 2009 – 1:41 pm -
If you’re a fan of Vince Vaughn, then you probably already know that his latest movie Couples Retreat is scheduled to hit theaters in October this year, but the trailer is already causing waves of laughter. See how this funny man made it from Swingers to Into the Wild in a few short years.
Vince was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, growing up in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, where he was on the football and wrestling teams. However, he graduated from Lake Forest High School shortly after a car accident took any chances of an athletic career away from him. He decided to pursue his interest in acting.
After landing a role in a Chevrolet commercial, Vince moved to Hollywood where he was cast in the TV show China Beach, as well as three after-school specials. His theatrical debut was in the movie Rudy, but
it was his role in Swingers that finally brought him the success he was seeking.
Vince went on to appear in many big-screen hits, perhaps some of the most memorable being Old School, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Wedding Crashers. However, he’s played a handful of serious roles along the way, including the remake of Psycho and his role in Into the Wild. Try as he may to play straight roles, Vince Vaughn is always best known as a comedic actor.
Do you think Vince Vaughn can be taken seriously as an actor? Or, is he destined to be thought of as a big guy that brings in big laughts?

Can Katie Holmes Dance?
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on July 13, 2009 – 11:24 am -
It’s been confirmed that Katie Holmes will be performing on the season finale of the TV show So, You Think You Can Dance, but details are still under wraps. Although I’m unclear on where dancing falls into her past, I’m eager to see what she brings to the show.
Katie was born in Toledo, Ohio, and started taking classes to become a teen model in Toledo at age 14, at a school run by Margaret O’Brien. After attending Christ the King Church and parochial schools in Toledo and appearing in school musicals at a nearby all-male high school called St. John’s Jesuit, O’Brien took Katie to a modeling contest called the International Modeling and Talent Association Competition held in New York City where Katie found an agent. The agent went on to send in an audition tape for the film The Ice Storm, a role she won and which marked her debut into film acting.
Katie was accepted to Columbia University, but only attended for a summer session. She focused her efforts on auditioning in Los Angeles during pilot season, which landed her a chance to read for the part of tomboy Joey Potter on a show called Dawson’s Creek. She won the role via a videotape audition, and was the only actor to appear in every episode of the show.
Her movie career staggered along with such films as Disturbing Behavior, Phone Booth, Go, and Teaching Mrs. Tingle, but gained positive praise in the movie Wonder Boys. Batman Begins seems to be credited as her most successful film to date, but critics have yet to cut poor Katie a break.
Her move to the stage was met in Broadway in All My Sons, but it’s her marriage to Tom Cruise that has caused the most stir. Now a Scientologist, mother, and dabbling in politics, we’ll see if Katie has what it takes when she puts on her dancing shoes!
Do you think critics have been too hard on Katie Holmes or do you agree with them wholeheartedly?

Farrah Fawcett – The Woman Behind the Red One-piece Bathing Suit
Written by Michelle Bruns Maffei on July 2, 2009 – 1:19 pm -
Farrah Fawcett was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1965. She then attended the University of Texas, where she appeared in a photo of the “Ten Most Beautiful Coeds” as a sister of Delta Delta Delta. The photo ran in Cashbox Magazine, gaining notice from a Hollywood publicist who urged her to move to Los Angeles to give modeling a try.
Her move proved fruitful as she landed several TV commercials, leading to roles on TV shows such as I Dream of Jeanie and The Six Million Dollar Man. Her good looks apparent, a company approached Farrah’s agent about doing a photo shoot for her most famous poster, shot by Bruce McBroom. Sales estimates of this now-famous poster reach about 12 million copies.
Known at that point as both a pretty face and an actress, Farrah appeared on many TV shows, but her most memorable role was
as Jill Munroe in Charlie’s Angels. Leaving the show after just one season, her next acclaim came with her role in the 1983 off-Broadway stage production Extremities. The movie version of Extremities earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.
Farrah took several TV movie roles earning her nominations and respect as an actress who refused to reveal it all… until she shocked the world by posing in Playboy magazine!
Despite her choice to appear on the pages of Playboy, Farrah’s career seemed to steadily run its course until she lost her battle with cancer in June 2009. From model to actress to stage performer, this teen model had a face that won’t soon be forgotten.
What is your favorite Farrah Fawcett memory?
