Marketing tip when sending in pictures

Written by judy on February 19, 2009 – 10:12 pm -

Confirm that the agency you’re sending pictures into has a children’s division, then try to get a name of an agent in that division to mark “attention to” on the outside of your envelope. If you can’t get a name, write the “attention to” as “director of kids’ division” or whatever name the agency calls their division.

For example, Wilhelmina’s Kid’s division is called “W Kids” – so write that on the front of your envelope so your pictures don’t get mixed up with another division or simply thrown away because there is no specific place where it should be going (if another division in the agency opens up the envelope, it may never get to the intended recipient).

Modeling and talent agencies get hundreds of envelopes every week, so you want to make sure yours is going to the right place!!

How do you know if a modeling agency is legit?

Written by judy on February 16, 2009 – 3:03 pm -

Do your research!!

Find out if your state requires modeling agencies to have a license, and if they do, ask to see it.

Also, go on the Better Business Bureau website to see if there are any complaints, as well as the Bureau of Consumer Protection.

Finally, if they are trying to charge you an upfront fee, that should be the biggest warning sign.

Has anyone ever had a bad experience with a company? Or a question about a company that claims to be legitimate, but something just doesn’t seem right?

What AGE do talent agencies start looking at kids?

Written by judy on February 10, 2009 – 11:46 am -

Age 4 is generaly the age to start looking for representation in acting, but do realize that some “talent” agencies have a print modeling division to!  Which means that they may take children under 4 in that agency for modeling.  It’s best to check-out their website or call the receptionist for a complete list of divisions before you start sending in your pictures.

Gilla Roos is a reputable model and talent agency in New York City where you can submit pictures through their website (but just make sure you live close enough to the city to go on appointments!): www.gillaroos.com

And LA Models is a great one in California: www.lamodels.com – but you have to send in your pictures by postal mail.

Good luck!  Would love to hear some success stories along the way!!!

High School Musical sighting!

Written by judy on February 6, 2009 – 8:37 pm -

I was in Los Angeles for the Golden Globes a couple of weeks ago, and met Vanessa Hudgens – what a beauty!! And just as polite and gracious as could be.  My 4-year old twin daughters would have fainted, I think!  I teased her about her boyfriend Zach, and she gave me a big smile.

What makes some child stars so down to earth, and others with such attitude?
