Written by judy on March 18, 2009 – 9:25 am -

I am working closely with a national morning news show about featuring TheCuteKid.com on their show!!

We are tentatively booked for Saturday, April 4th, and they are asking us to bring members of TheCuteKid.com LIVE onto their show!! The anchor will be interviewing the parent and possibly the child about their modeling or acting career and their experience with TheCuteKid.

Whoever is interested in participating in this must be available to come to New York City between the hours of 5am – 10am Saturday, April 4th…I do not have a specific time yet, but the entire airing should take about 2 hours during that timeframe.

We are looking for one parent per each Cute Kid plus however many CuteKids you have registered with us. All ethnicities and ages will be considered.

Requirements:

You MUST live in the tri-state area (in case there is a rehearsal the day before).

Child being submitted has to be a registered member of www.TheCuteKid.com.

If you want to be on national television, please email yours and your child’s photo (maximum of 1 picture per each person and make sure they are head shots that are close-up and in focus), your full names, the child’s clothing and shoe sizes, child’s date of birth and contact information including email and cell phone to morningshow@thecutekid.comNO LATER THAN THURSDAY, MARCH 26th.
PLEASE REMEMBER: This is a TENTATIVELY booked segment so far, but we’re hoping for the best and are trying to give our members the opportunity to be on national TV!!

Quick tips to a better body inside AND out!

Written by judy on March 16, 2009 – 1:36 pm -

Are you one of those women who are constantly running around with too much to do? Does the picture above seem like a long-lost dream to you? I think that is most of us these days, overloaded with work, kids and family…when do you start taking care of YOU??

There are a few things you can start with right in your own home - the first one is to make sure and drink lots of water. You should be drinking 6 – 8 glasses a day to help cleanse your system AND reduce cellulite, along with giving your skin a fresher appearance. This is a well-known tip in the modeling industry – if you ever come across a model in New York during fashion week I guarantee you there will be a bottle of water somewhere within her reach.

Eat smaller meals more often, if you can. This helps boost your energy and speeds up your metabolism. If you work, take some healthy snacks to stick in your desk drawer to munch on during the day in between meals (raisins, nuts, dried fruit, etc.). Skipping meals is NOT the answer – eating more often in less quantites IS the answer!

Can’t find time to get to Yoga class? Get a DVD to practice at home for 20 – 30 minutes! Rodney Yee has some fantastic ones for great prices (under $15) Click here – my 4-year olds LOVE to practice with me! Get them in the habit early, they will have so much fun working out with Mommy!

Or perhaps a brisk walk once a day is more your style – in just a few weeks you will start to see results! You can alternate a walk every other day with simple floor excercises like a few push-ups, leg lifts and sit-ups. Just make sure to stretch before and after, and check with your doctor to make sure that you are ready for this kind of activity.

AND IF ALL ELSE FAILS….you can always turn to an amazing shapewear product called “Yummie Tummie!” Smooth out those trouble spots instantly: CLICK HERE for more information. Believe me, as a former editor for MORE Magazine, I’ve seen ALL the shapewear products out there, and this is one you really need to see!

Does anyone else have quick fitness tips for busy Moms? Post away!!

How do I get my kid in the modeling/acting industry?

Written by judy on March 13, 2009 – 9:44 am -

A lot of the questions I receive are very much like this one – where do you begin?

Well, it depends on a variety of things: your child’s age, where you live, etc. but the best place to start is your local area – besides TheCuteKid website, of course!

To procure agency/manager representation, you really have to live in the area (or about an hour away) in which you would be going on appointments with your child, or be willing to move immediately to where you send their pictures.

The talent agencies normally do not represent children under the age of 4 – there is no getting around that, it is a standard industry rule. I had to wait like everyone else – don’t you think I was DYING to get my twins representation before the age of 4 for acting? Absolutely! But I to had to wait, even though I live in the NYC area and have a ton of resources because of the location.

So if your child is younger than 4, you should focus on the modeling end of things for now - and whatever open calls you see from TheCuteKid website. Google “model agency your town” and start researching! Call the agencies you find, and ask questions – is there a fee to join, do they have a children’s division, where can you send your pictures?

The modeling and acting industries are hard WORK – and once you get representation, it’s even more work going on all of the auditions, callbacks and the preparation it takes. The “overnight success” phrase is a myth, spun by the media to make celebrities seem all that more intriguing.

If your child is older than 4 and you want to get them into acting, then you should start having them participate in school plays, acting camp, workshops for kids and that type of thing. Acting takes more of an investment at first than modeling does – you can get away with sending in casual snapshots to a modeling agency (even after joining the agency you can use use non-professional pictures depending on their age), but after a child is past a certain age for acting you will be looking into getting a profesesional head shot, resume, etc.

I hope this helps, the fact that you are reading this shows that you are moving in the right direction! Learn, learn, learn – knowledge is power in this industry to avoid falling into the hands of the wrong people.

The run-around from agencies

Written by judy on March 2, 2009 – 9:57 pm -

Ever heard a response like “He/she is not right for this agency” or “Beautiful child but come back when he/she is older?“  What do you do when you get an answer like this?  Or no answer at all?

KEEP TRYING – the modeling industry is cyclical!  One day you will find that agents are looking for a certain kind of look (which may not be your kid) and the next they are dying to represent him or her.  Often the answer to whether or not an agency wants to rep your child has nothing to do with your child at all!

For example, if your kid looks like someone else they represent already, or they have too many kids in that age bracket, an agency simply won’t consider him or her.  That is why you have to keep at it and send those pictures in every few months, unless you are told not to any more (which rarely happens).

Persistence, patience and pictures with personality ALL count when you are marketing your child!!

And when you send those pictures in a few months later, make sure they are totally different from the ones you sent before.
