Hi Corrie,
You should not be paying ANY FEES!!!
If an agency is legitimate, they will not charge you anything ESPECIALLY for a child that young. Perhaps a nominal website fee to be on their site ($10/month?) but that’s it.
Here is an agency in Orlando (see if they represent kids under 4 first):
Slate Model and Talent
431 East Central Boulevard, Suite C
Orlando, FL 32381
Contact: Michelle
Tel. 407 339 4040 / 407 841 7600
Fax 407 926 1841

GOOD LUCK!!

Hi Lau-Rene,
That really depends on the conversation…for modeling, you really don’t need professional pictures at first, and should not be forced to pay for them until your daughter starts working as a model.
For acting, it’s a different story – she is old enough that she will need an 8X10 headshot – so it depends if the agency is for modeling or acting, and what they’re trying to do. IF you decide you want to get her professional shots for modeling OR acting, you should be getting a list of photographers, and make it your choice. One of the scams involve having an “agency” force you to use their photographer, then you pay them and they split the profits.
$40 sounds like a strange number, I would love to know either the name of the agency or what the $40 includes.
Thanks for posting!

Hi, I have a 1 year old little valentines baby. We live in Jacksonville F.L. Everytime I post a picture of my son, many peole say I need to enter him into contests. I think he’s cute, but how do I know if he would be good at modeling or any other acting. I’m pretty curious, and would like to know if there are any agencies near jacksonville, fl, and do they have fees?

Hi Judy: My 8 yr old daughter has been stopped in the malls and on the streets in nyc to come to an agency and see if she has the potential to model. Everytime I get to these places they want me to dish out $40+ dollars for headshots. I get up and say thanks, but no thanks…is this the right thing to do and at what point do I spend the $ for headshots and comp cards? Please advise!

Rebecca,
To find out if she has a modeling/acting look or chance, you need to market her to agencies and see the response.

I have a 5 1/2 year old who loves to pose for the camera. She watches Americas Next Top Model and tries to imitate some of their looks. I have to say, she does a pretty good job for her age. I just want to know if she has the look. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time.

Hi Judy,
My almost 8 y.o. is very interested in modeling and acting. She has always been in the 110th percentile for height and is thin. She has done some magazine ads and recently received a call back for a film audition in Seattle. I am looking for a reputable agency in the Seattle area. The agency she was with went out of business and so far, have had no luck finding another. Any help would be so much appreciated! Thank you!

February 15th, 2010 at 11:02 am
Hi Erika!
Yes, modeling agencies like Ford and Wilhelmina have different work than commercial print agencies like Abrams, CESD, etc.
You should be able to have both – kids are hardly ever exclusive for print. You could even ask your modeling agency for intros to the other agencies.
Hope that helps, and thanks for posting!

My daughter is represented in NYC for acting (Commercial, Television, Film). In addition to the above, she sometimes goes for Print Go/Sees and has also booked a few Print jobs. The PRINT jobs seem to be ads. DO modeling agencies handles different jobs (catalogs, editorial, fashion shows, etc) than Agencies like Abrams Artists? She is interested in these kinds of opportunities but they seem different than the ones currrently coming through her agency.
February 12th, 2010 at 3:36 pm
Hi Karla!
No, no professional pics needed!! They may ask you to get a professional portfolio for the 15 yr old if they want to sign her/him, but that’s a different story. And is he/she a girl? Because the ELLEgirlmodelsearch.com is a great way to try and get into that side of the industry! It’s different for kids and teens.
There is a terrific agency in Tampa called “Seven.” I don’t know if they rep infants, but call and ask! Definitely a good place for your other children.
Thanks for posting!

There is a great one in Tampa called “Seven.”

Hi Judy,
My 7 year old daughter recently has come to me expressing interest in modeling/acting. However, I’m not sure where the best place to begin would be, living in STL, MO. I don’t want to start off and be steared into the wrong direction, ending up wasting money. She’s a creative, artistic, humorous type of child. She gets compliments all the time that she’s going to be the next Tyra Banks. So she does have a very unique look about her. I never want to push my children though. But now she has come to me, and is persistant about this. She asks me every day if I’ve contacted anyone regarding acting/modeling. So, I’m looking for any suggestions/advice you may have for us.
Thank you!
February 11th, 2010 at 1:32 pm
