Jon & Kate Plus Tabloids

Talk about paparazzi parenting… sheesh! If Kate and Jon Gosselin haven’t experienced it to the fullest extent, I don’t know what would be the equivalent of stalkerazzi.
Sure, by now you’ve heard the stars of the reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8 are on the rocks. Way on the rocks. As in infidelity on the rocks with a splash of lime.
We’re not here to say if there was infidelity or not but we are here to say leave them alone! Could you imagine what it would be like to raise eight children in the glaring spotlight? Their kids may not be old enough to know exactly what’s going on around them but rest assured they already know something is up.
This is a prime example of when the media needs to step aside. There is no story. Game over, case closed. Apparently Jon was in a car with a woman friend who was just that – a friend. I’m not here to judge. I’m not here to say if their marriage is on the brink or not. I am here to say, however, it’s no one’s biz’ness! Seriously though.
It’s sad if their non-story sells magazines and people crave this sort of information. As an entertainment reporter, I’m a huge fan of interviewing celebs, promoting their flicks, finding out what makes them tick. But when a personal issue arises and you literally land smack dab on the front of the weeklies, well that’s a bit unsettling and blown out of proportion.
Even though they’re in the public eye, let’s let the Gosselins resolve their marital issues (or perhaps non-issues, as the case may be) and simply let them focus on raising their children.
Would love to hear ya weigh in. Do you think we, the general public, have a right to know what’s going on behind closed bedroom doors just because people are television personalities or are they still entitled to their privacy regardless?

Beyonce’s Next Role? *Not* Motherhood
Written by Vicki Salemi on May 21, 2009 – 11:52 pm -

Gotta love a celeb that’s true to her words. Seriously, though.
When asked if she’ll be a mother at some point, uber-talented Beyonce Knowles indicated yes… but just not now. It’s always good when a celeb speaks from the heart. After all, her recent role as a mother in the new flick Obsessed probably had something to do with it. And the fact that she’s been a newlywed for only one year, well, perhaps the 27-year-old figures there’s time and the clock has not even begun to chime just yet.
While the singer, dancer, actress, all of the above indicates she most definitely wants to be a mom someday, she’s just not sure when. Her role in Obsessed reminded me of what happens when you’re in the seventh grade and you have to take care of a hard-boiled egg for an entire week as if it’s a baby and have someone watch it, take it to dance class with you, etc. (Okay, was that just me and the ‘burbs of New Jersey?) Ultimately, the seventh-graders realized how much we cherished our freedom and how fragile that little ol’ egg really was! (Yes, that means I dropped mine and it cracked and broke, reproductive game over. <sigh>)
As I was saying, instead of infusing the pitter-patter of little feet, Beyonce’s role of mother completely deterred her from the thought for now. Beyonce mentioned it reminded her how much work it will be to become a mom!
I give Beyonce props for speaking her mind and knowing when the time isn’t right to bring a child into the world. How many celebs can you think of who have had babies just ‘cuz they wanted it (cough-Britney Spears-cough, cough) and didn’t realize it perhaps wasn’t the best circumstances to raise a child or two or, let’s say, eight? (Octomom, anyone?)

J. Lo’s Twin Scare
Written by Vicki Salemi on May 13, 2009 – 2:21 am -

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare. Other than a missing child, a sick child can be equally heart wrenching.
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony seem to have it all. Fame, fortune, love, and finally — family! However, only three short weeks after their twins were born they noticed something frightening. They found a lump on their daughter’s head. This is where the whole gliteratti, paparazzi, bestselling albums, worldwide tours, moolah, houses, and jet-setting disintegrate into nothing. At the end of the day, they’re parents. They’re people. Their concern is for their precious babies.
Well, fortunately, after a slew of tests their daughter was fine. And this is where we realize so many others may not be in the same situation. For Jennifer and Marc, we’re assuming the medical bills were a no-brainer. As for the rest of America? Hmmm.
The altruistic Jennifer teamed up with the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles to create the Maribel Foundation. The foundation will help provide pediatric medical services to struggling families. Kudos to J. Lo! Even though celeb parents’ struggles may be the same as common-folk, financially speaking when it comes to medical bills there is definitely not an even playing field. It’s refreshing to see the A-lister give back to the community.
Do you think celebrities have an obligation to give back given their ability to generate buzz through their star power, financial prowess, and media spotlight? Or is it simply an optional somethin’-somethin’ driven by their inner sense of well-being and altruistic nature?

McConaughey’s Ghosts of Photos Past
Written by Vicki Salemi on May 12, 2009 – 4:50 pm -
Calabrese/Gaz Shirley/Pacific Coast News
Picture it. You’re an A-List celeb and everywhere you go there’s paparazzi. A flash bulb here, a flash bulb there, here a flash, there a flash, everywhere a flash-flash!
Now, if you will imagine strolling with your stroller. Your kid’s in the caboose and the paps simply won’t leave you alone. That, my friend, is where the line should be drawn. Sure, along with being a celebrity comes the territory of being in the public eye and having your privacy invaded to some extent.
Key words: “to some extent.” When you’re hottie Matthew McConaughey, star of the new flick, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, there’s going to be interest in his nine-month-old son, Levi, but you know what? Photogs should back off. Give him some space and, more importantly, realize a celeb’s kid did not choose to be in the public eye. Matthew seems more cordial than other celebs and typically acknowledges the photogs with a wave or hello.
Well, in a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, it seems the actor is at peace and realizes paparazzi will always be a-stalkin’ but that you have a choice. You can either stay at home and not go out, or you can simply live your life and accept they will be there to document it.
We give Matthew props for rolling with it and realizing his love, Camila, is often thrust into the spotlight thanks to the pics.
In any event, what are your thoughts? Do celebs deserve an inkling of privacy or is anything fair game in terms of pictures the moment they’re out and about?

Spelling Bee: Let Bygones be Bygones
Written by Vicki Salemi on May 7, 2009 – 1:07 am -
Huge fans here at Paparazzi Parenting! If you grew up watching Kelly, Donna, Dylan, and Brandon, join the par-tay! So any time we hear about one of the crew in the news, our ears perk up and we simply soak it all in. (And by we I mean I. Yes, I’m such a 90210 junkie!)
Tori Spelling and her mom, Candy, are apparently in the no-talking zone. Still. As in do not pass go, do not collect $200. Okay, that so did not fit. But you know what I’m sayin’. We can’t speculate, we truly can’t, as to why they’re not speaking or who is at fault, but come on now.
We only get one chance at this lifetime, it is not a round-trip but rather a one-way destination. (OK, how grim does that sound!) Candy has reportedly never met her newest grandchild Stella and though she previously saw Liam, Tori’s first child, she hasn’t seen him in a while.
Candy’s new book, Stories from Candyland, is in stores right now telling her side of the story. Her husband, Aaron Spelling, who died in 2007, was a mastermind of all the shows we grew up watching like 90210, Melrose Place, and, ah yes, The Love Boat! (”Exciting and new, come aboard, we’re expecting you!”) In fact, Candy is selling the $150 million mansion where she’s lived since 1991.
The 63-year-old is downsizing to a condo and has stated she hasn’t given up hope yet and has a playroom in case Liam and Stella ever visit her.
While we don’t know the whole story as to why they’re estranged, we do know this: life is short.
Do you think Tori and Candy should let bygones be bygones and kiss and make-up? Seriously. Everyone loses out in this situation. Their kids don’t know their grandmother. They certainly will never know their grandfather. Kinda heartbreaking, yes?

Hasselbeck: Third Time’s a Charm

It’s a funny thing about being pregnant. Elisabeth Hasselbeck, co-host of The View, recently said she doesn’t have time to think about her pregnancy and she’s lucky to take that pre-natal pill at the end of each day!
You said it, sista! Not like this singlista would know but, hey, when you’ve seen your pregnant friends be doted on with their first pregnancy and see the seismic shift with babies two, three, or more, it’s pretty clarifying. For instance, Hasselbeck has so much going on considering her four-year-old daughter and one-year-old son need TLC (and, ah yes, her husband, too!). She is also promoting a new book about gluten-free diets, co-hosting the show five days each week, and fitting in what she needs to do to stay healthy herself.
For someone so outspoken on political issues, she seems to have hit the nail on the head on this one. During her first pregnancy Elisabeth alluded to being “a pregnant goddess and everyone is running around giving you water.” While every woman is a pregnant goddess indeed and should always be given a seat on the subway (hear me, fellow 6 train passengers? It’s considered polite to give up your seat for a pregnant woman, elderly person, or child!), the frame of mind shifts when you already have babies in the house.
I’ve seen this in my own friends and their different mindsets of preparing for baby full throttle versus not having any time to prepare for their addition since they’re already busy nurturing their other children.
As refreshing as it was to hear words from a celebrity ring true, what are your thoughts? Think pregnant celebs have it any different or is it the cry-me-a-river speech being artificially busy considering they typically have help via nannies, chefs, and chauffeurs?

Rebecca Drops Post-Baby Pounds Sans Push Ups
Written by Vicki Salemi on May 1, 2009 – 11:01 am -
INF
She’s talented. Gorgeous. And, oh yeah, a new mom. We can’t imagine what could be more difficult than trying to shed baby weight other than trying to do it in front of the public eye.
Well, if you’re Rebecca Romijn, mother of fraternal twins Dolly Rebecca Rose and Charlie Tamara Tulip, you don’t exactly have to try. The spouse of actor Jerry O’Connell recently told Extra the 60 pounds of baby weight started shedding pretty quickly thanks to breastfeeding.
Without exercising, she’s had to consume even more calories in order to breastfeed both Dolly and Charlie. In fact, Rebecca says, within the first three weeks she dropped about 35 pounds without having to lift a barbell! That’s a good thing because we can’t imagine how going from no kids to two infants would give you time to work out or even get into a regular schedule.
The starlet admits she still has a way to go and that she’s not pretending to get back into pre-pregnancy shape. Plus, there’s always Spanx to suck in the bulges.
You know what? Rebecca seems real and honest. She’s not putting pressure on herself with the unwritten Hollywood rule to drop the pounds in a ridiculously short amount of time, do intense workouts, or barely eat.
What are your thoughts? Do you think new moms (like Ashlee Simpson, Halle Berry, and more) have intense scrutiny to lose the pregnancy pounds?
