When you’re a celebrity, there’s almost certainly scrutiny 24/7.

Even if you’re three years old.

That’s right. Little Suri Cruise, the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, wore a pink flamenco-type dress in Spain as her papa films his upcoming action-comedy, Knight & Day. As for the preferred footwear? Polka-dotted high heels.

Keep in mind this hasn’t been the first time Suri wore heels. Holmes recently responded to critics who were complaining the heels could be harmful to Suri’s physical development. She told Access Hollywood, “They are actually ballroom dancing shoes for kids. I found them for her and she loves them.”

Interesting, yes? I can’t imagine having to defend the choice of footwear for your child to the press but, alas, such is the state of our world. Granted, it looks a little bit grown-up, don’t ya think? She’s freaking THREE! Why not put adorable little patent leather party shoes on her? Why give her the option to choose heels? I’ve done my share of reporting on footwear as it impacts someone’ s health: we all know that heels are not good for a woman’s foot or posture so why start them so young? Why, Katie why? Then again, I suppose there could be worse things to be thinking about than poo-pooing Katie’s choice of footwear for her child.

Ah, the power of celebrity. Is there a war going on in Iraq? A health care debate here on American soil? The pending World Series at our fingertips? That would be yes, yes, and oh, yeah. And then there’s the world of Tinseltown. Consider it escapism if you will and how refreshing it is to simply hear about celebs instead of life or death serious situations.

Such is the case of Suri Cruise. We haven’t heard about the little offspring of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise now, have we? They’ve managed to keep her somewhat out of the spotlight from time to time though the occasional photo op does not disappoint. I had to wonder though: what happened to his adopted daughter and son, Isabella and Connor?

Do they feel like the ugly stepsisters a la Cinderella since they’re hardly ever photographed or in the news? Or perhaps they prefer to fly under the radar and consider it a blessing since their dad is uber-famous? Hmmm. You gotta wonder why we hardly ever hear about the 17-year-old and 14-year-old kids. Maybe they just like going to soccer practice and studying for the SATs without the photogs snapping away at their every move. Or maybe there’s not as much of a demand since Suri is genetically produced from Katie and Tom (ok, how awkward did that sound? haha) and Isabella and Connor aren’t?

I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem like equal opportunity shine time to me. What do you think: do certain siblings get “star” treatment while others get shafted?

Type the name “Suri” into Google and guess what? You’ll get 10,200,000 hits. Not bad for a two-year-old, huh?

When you’re the daughter of an iconic movie star and his fashionista wife (seriously, is it just us or does Katie have an amazing stylist?), there’s pressure to look good. Even as a toddler.

While we dote on the adorable mini-me’s of celebrities and remind ourselves they just happen to be kids with really famous parents with ridiculous amounts of money, we gotta remember they’re still typical babes. I’ve yet to see this particular one on a “bad” day. Designer patent leather shoes? You got it. Stylin’ little dresses? You bet. OshKosh B’Gosh overalls? No way.

Now, I’m not saying she doesn’t wear a little pair of overalls every now and then (perhaps she does, she’s just not photographed wearing them). It’s one thing to be impeccably dressed as an adult without a hair out of place and with shoes and matching handbag in tow. It’s quite another to see an adorable little child dressed to the nines every single time she’s out and about.

Is it really necessary? Wouldn’t she just love to wear a little pair of Old Navy jeans every now and then to romp around in the sandbox? Perhaps we’re being harsh. After all, this baby is constantly photographed, seemingly more so than others who try to shield their children from the press and rightly so (ahem, Gwyneth Paltrow). It just would be refreshing to see little Suri in a t-shirt and sweats. You know, play clothes.
