Not Just for Vampires: Pale Is the Hot New Look
Written by Mary Fetzer on March 23, 2009 – 11:18 pm -The immensely popular Twilight movie stars some of the most gorgeous people we’ve ever seen. The pale, smooth-as-marble skin of Edward, Alice, Rosalie, and the rest of the Cullen vampires exemplify the beauty of fair skin.
For decades, tanned celebs led scores of teens to hit the tanning beds and beaches — with little or no protection — in search of that golden look of Hollywood. Sadly, tanned skin is damaged skin, and many sunbathers are now paying a heavy price for their tanning indulgences. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons are making a fortune helping prematurely aged stars look young again, while other medical professionals are coming to the aid of unfortunate sun worshipers who suffer from deadly skin cancer.
Some stars decided to take a safer route, opting for spray-on and other artificial tans notoriously referred to as the orange-y fake bake. But more and more young celebrities are embracing their porcelain skin and bringing a new-found glamour to pale. Here are just a few of these natural beauties:
Dakota Fanning — acting since age 5, Dakota landed the coveted role of vampire Jane in the Twilight sequel, New Moon
Abigail Breslin — 12-year-old Kit Kittredge really is “an American Girl”
Avril Lavigne — Lavigne makes pale look hot, whether she’s rocking out on the music scene or designing clothes on the fashion scene
Emma Roberts — Julia’s niece has three movies coming out in 2009
Alexander Ludwig and Anna Sophia Robb — the new Race to Witch Mountain stars are attractive on-screen siblings
Daniel Radcliffe — Harry Potter bared more than just his fair face in the much talked-about play, Equus
Frances Bean Cobain – the fair lass is the daughter of Courtney Love and late Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain
Kristen Stewart — Twilight’s “Bella Swan” doesn’t have to change into a vampire to flaunt her smooth skin
Lily Cole — Look for her lily-white skin in this year’s Rage and The Imagination of Doctor Parnassus
Rumer Willis – the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis was one of People magazine’s 2008 Most Beautiful celebrities
Are you ready to embrace your fair complexion?

Young Stars Rock the Red Carpet at the Oscars
Written by Mary Fetzer on February 26, 2009 – 2:08 am -Nicole Kidman, step aside for some hot young stars. New talent ruled the red carpet at the 81st Annual Academy Awards. Here’s my pick for the top 5:
#5 Frieda Pinto — Frieda looked amazing in a royal blue John Galliano gown with sequined detailing. But does it really matter what this Slumdog Millionaire star wears?
Her natural beauty will always take center stage.
#4 Miley Cyrus — Looks like Hannah Montana finally got the message: dress your age!
After bombing out on so many red carpets in dresses that were far too old for her, Miley finally got it right. She wore a sparkly Zuhair Murad ball gown in ivory silk chiffon. The beaded v-neck bodice and tiered skirt were perfect for a teen sensation.
#3 Vanessa Hudgens — This was no High School
Musical prom for Vanessa. She “felt like a young Audrey
Hepburne” in her curve-hugging, black Marchesa gown.
The ruched, sequined, flower-embellished confection
looked gorgeous with her soft, effortless up-do. And her
date, Zac Efron, was perhaps her very best accessory!
#2 Natalie Portman — This talented young star continues to wow us on and off the screen. She carries herself with tremendous grace yet doesn’t try to look older than she is. Natalie’s simple Rodarte strapless dress in bubble gum pink was youthful and elegant.
#1 Amanda Seyfried — TheMamma Mia star looked amazing in a brick red Valentino gown. While you usually find this designer’s duds on more mature stars, Amanda used the fabulous color and a big bow embellishment to make it perfectly age appropriate. She’s my winner for this year’s red carpet.
