What Not To Wear (When You’re A Celebrity)
Written by Mary Fetzer on November 10, 2009 – 5:03 pm -Teenagers love taking fashion risks. Sometimes it works (doesn’t Selena Gomez always look adorable?), and sometimes it doesn’t (remember fashion bomb Mischa Barton?). Here are just a few examples of what NOT to wear when you’re a teen model, musician, actress or celebrity of any kind:

Taylor Momsen
When she’s not playing Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl, Taylor Momsen is trying way too hard to look like she doesn’t care about fashion.
The young woman needs a personal stylist… pronto.

Rihanna
Pop superstar Rihanna’s sleeveless top is funky. Her lipstick is gorgeous. The colossal matching sunglasses are fine.
The Kate Gosselin hair (on anyone, ever) is not.

.
*
Miley Cyrus
Yahoo’s OMG fashion critics compared Miley’s nasty dress to her famous father’s infamous mullet.
The fishnet stockings and a come-hither pout don’t fool us Miley, you still look like you’re 12.

Emma Stone
The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past actress appears to be channeling an angelic version of Wednesday Addams. The material and design are matronly, and the color blends right in with Emma’s pale skin.
The unnecessary bow around her neck is the only “blue ribbon” she’ll win with this ensemble.

Robert Pattinson’s Style is Easy to Imitate
Written by Mary Fetzer on November 2, 2009 – 10:31 am -

Robert Pattinson, aka Edward Cullen, has been touted as a modern-day James Dean. RP has a style all his own, and once you get past his distracting hair, you can see that he’s actually a really cool dresser.
What’s interesting about RP is that he looks the same whether he’s posing for a photo shoot or walking through an airport terminal. He’s all about casual — jeans, T-shirt, and some five o’clock shadow.
Any guy can copy Rob’s style:
Best V from GAP
The Best V — previously called the perfect T — looks just like the expensive Armani T-shirts Rob often wears.
The Best V is a soft, nicely fitting tee that’s available in seven vibrant new colors: cape red, greenfield, nautical blue, postal blue, red mahogany, district green, and plum heather. Wear it alone or as an accessory piece under a button-down. In stores and online, $18.
AE Outfitters Relaxed Straight Jean
RP wears expensive dark, straight-leg jeans by Dior, Diesel, Polo, and Denim & Thread.
Get the same look for less with the Dark Rich Tinted Relaxed Straight Jean from American Eagle Outfitters (formerly the Vintage Fit Jean).
The low-waist cotton denim jeans are relaxed through the leg and feature antiqued metal hardware, fading, and paint platter detailing.
Available in waist sizes 26 through 48 and inseam sizes 28 through 36.
Look for style #0117-2814 in stores and online, $59.50.
But if it’s Rob’s hair you want, I’m afraid you’re on your own.
Tell us what you think about Robert Pattinson’s style? Sexy or sloppy?

10 Best Dressed Teens in Tinseltown, Part 2
Written by Mary Fetzer on October 26, 2009 – 4:24 pm -Click to access >> 10 Best Dressed Teens in Tinseltown, Part 1
Our kids worry about how they look for school, the mall, the football game… not the red carpet. That’s why my picks for the best-dressed teen celebrities is based on what the stars look like when they’re not modeling for the paparazzi.
#5 Chace Crawford
It’s probably unfair to put Chace Crawford on a best-dressed list. With a face and physique like his, Chace would look chic in a paper bag.
But the Gossip Girl star really does look his best when he’s not filming. Whether he’s wearing a white T-shirt or a Yankees ball cap, Chace drives the girls crazy.
Who else would rock a pair of Diesel Revick 88Z jeans (left) like Chace?

#4 Minka Kelly
Is it possible that Minka inherited her fashion sense from her parents? Doubt it — Dad’s an Aerosmith guitarist, and Mom’s a former Vegas showgirl.
The Friday Night Lights beauty always looks amazing.
Here (left) Minka struts her stuff in a pair of Hudson Signature bootcut jeans. Wow. And her furry friend makes the perfect accessory!
#3 Zac Efron
Zac once said that he’s “an actor who can sing a little bit.” But after his performances in High School Musical and Hairspray, it appears he can do both… and more.
What’s not to like about Zac? He’s talented, handsome, devoted to his girlfriend, has great hair, and always looks fab.
This (left) is how he dresses to get a bite to eat at Hugo’s Restaurant.

#2 Demi Lovato
Disney’s newest rising star is Demi Lovato. The star of Camp Rock, Princess Protection Program, and Sonny with a Chance is also a rising star on the fashion front.
Demi likes to take risks trying anything from neon pink lipstick to gothic chains and studs.
Her unique style really shines here (left) in this IRO Vardith cotton vest paired with ripped jeans and strappy black boots.
It’ll be interesting to see how Demi transitions from funky teen to young adult.
#1 Leighton Meester
Gossip Girl Blair Waldorf has access to the finest fashions. Sometimes it’s tough to tell if Leighton Meester, who plays Blair, is wearing her own duds or something from the show.
Leighton has superb taste. Here she is (left) out on the town in Phi zip black leather pants and a Proenza Schouler Resort 2010 bag.
Leighton has the best fashion instincts (or maybe the best stylist?) in Tinsel Town.

Little Girls in High Heels? No way!
Written by Mary Fetzer on October 5, 2009 – 9:59 am -
Buying for a six-year-old diva can be so much fun… until it comes to shoes.
All summer long, my cute kid wore adorable sandals or just went barefoot. As school approached, I got serious about finding practical, comfy shoes. Who knew it would be so difficult? Sure, there’s plenty of trendy footwear like the big girls (and Suri Cruise, right) wear, but my daughter needed something functional for the long days at school.
Clunky shoes with big heels cannot be good for her growing bones. Those charming ballerina flats look great, but they rub and cause blistering at the heel (if they stay on at all). Boots and Uggs are comfy, but they’re too hot to wear all day. Sneakers and athletic shoes are fine for Phys Ed days, but a style-conscious gal needs something with which to accessorize her fashionista wardrobe, too!
I decided to scour the Internet for wearable shoes. I had my daughter properly sized — she’s a 12 medium — and went online shopping. It took some work, but eventually I found some age-appropriate, comfortable fall shoes, like these:
BeanSport Mary Janes from LL Bean
These delightful little shoes come in prints (clearwater blue floral and dark mulberry butterflies, left) and solids (chocolate, light taupe and sea lavendar).
.
.
Merrell Kids Encore Adams Leather
These fall/winter pigskin loafers are easy to slip off and on. The shoes are available in this taupe brown/turquoise color combo as well as black with red trim.
.
.
Wave The Date 2 Reaction by Kenneth Cole
Faux patent leather upper with a square toe soft suede details. Adjustable buckle straps with hidden elastics secure a perfect fit. Neutral colors include black patent (shown), dark brown and burgundy.
.
.
Jodi II from First Kiss
The simple slip-on shoe boasts fabric piping and a decorative Mary Jane strap. The rubber outsole offers sure, safe footing. This shoe is available in both navy (left) and black.
Regularly $39.99, now just $19.99 at Famous Footwear.com
.
.
Every little girl should be allowed to play in high heels, but every little girl also needs shoes that preserve her precious little feet.
What do you think of Suri’s high-heel stroll through the city?

New Moon Vampires Have Twilight Beauty
Written by Mary Fetzer on September 8, 2009 – 10:53 am -
There was a time when looking like a vampire meant looking dark or gothic. But Twilight fans appreciate the real beauty of a vampire. Skin and smooth and perfect as marble. Satisfied golden eyes. Luscious blood-red lips.
Now anyone can flaunt vampire perfection. This fall, Twilight Beauty.com will introduce two lines of makeup — Luna Twilight and Volturi Twilight — in conjunction with the release of New Moon.
Just as Bella cannot live without her Edward, makeup lovers will discover that they can’t possibly live without these fabulous new products.
Luna Twilight represents “the light coming through the darkness, the power of Edward’s love for Bella despite the obstacles that stand between them.” Choose from Just Bitten staining balm, Moonshadows eye color, and Mortal Glow blushing creme. In addition to the radiant makeup is the extraordinary packaging that any girl will proudly carry as an accessory.
Volturi Twilight “symbolizes never ending struggle between good and evil, right and wrong, love and lust.” Check out Twilight Venom lip stain, Immortal Liquid body shimmer, and Crown Metallic Mascara. Every package boasts the impressive royal crest of the ageless Volturi.
Twilight vampires are beautiful: Rosalie is perfect, Alice is darling, Victoria is wicked, and Jane is intimidating. No matter which gorgeous creature inspires you, Twilight Beauty gives you the tools you need to get there.
The Twilight Saga: Teeny-bopper romance or timeless love story?

The Cell Phones Celebrities Use
Written by Mary Fetzer on August 24, 2009 – 12:30 pm -
Cell phones are as much a back-to-school necessity as pencils and backpacks. Your kids can make a fashion statement by flaunting the phone used by a favorite celeb. Coolspotters.com keeps track of the phones stars use, like Haylie and Hilary Duff (right) with the Sidekick 3.

BlackBerry Curve
Zac Efron, Kristen Stewart and Emma Watson are just a few of many celebrities who favor the BlackBerry Curve (left), developed by Research In Motion.
Apple iPhone
The iPhone (left) is a super-fast smartphone with 3G capability.
Celebrities spotted using the iPhone include Selena Gomez, Jake T. Austin, Clay Aiken and Kourtney Kardashian.
Nokia E71
Singing Sensation Alicia Keyes
loves her Nokia.
Pictured at right is the second-generation 24K-gold Nokia E71 by Continental Phones.

Motorola Razr V3 PNK
Pink accessories are hard to beat, but this Razr comes in other colors for those who are less daring.
Musician Anahi has been spotted with the Pink Razr V3 (shown at left).

NYC Peach T-Mobile Sidekick II
No one does glitz quite like Paris Hilton.
Take a fashion cue from her with the sparkling Sidekick II (left).
LG Xenon
Cuties Hayden Panettiere and Demi Lovato are fashion icons for teens and tweens.
They both use the LG Xenon, picture here in blue.
Cell phones are so handy for keeping track of your kids, but they can cause problems, too. What are your school’s guidelines regarding cell phone use?

Best Celebrity Haircuts for Boys 2009
Written by Mary Fetzer on August 13, 2009 – 11:14 pm -Girls aren’t the only ones wanting to have the latest hairstyles. Guys today spend a ton of money and effort getting just the right look. So, what is the “right look” for back-to-school 2009? Take a cue from some of today’s hottest celebrities:
The hunky “Gossip Girl” star Chace Crawford has THE look. It may seem like he just rolled out of bed, but that carefree look is the product of styling gel, highlights, and the perfect cut. Chace’s long bangs play up his gorgeous baby blue eyes. This style looks best on guys with chiseled facial features. One thing’s for sure… however Chace wears his hair in the upcoming remake of Footloose, it’ll look better than Kevin Bacon’s!
Some guys hate their curly hair, but Jake T. Austin of Disney’s “The Wizards of Waverly Place” knows how to work it. The Hotel for Dogs heartthrob once wore his hair to his shoulders. His new, shorter cut is more grown-up and masculine. Jake wears a side part and lets the curls go where they may. We’ve got our eye on this young man — he’s a “natural” as a little league baseball player in 2009’s The Perfect Game.
Then there’s Taylor Lautner. Sure, we love the long, luscious locks he wears as werewolf Jacob in Twilight and New Moon, but his cropped coif shows off his adorable half boy/half man features so beautifully! Taylor’s hair looks like it could suffer some serious cowlicks, but he’s got things under control with tons of layers. Long hair, short hair — heck, even bald — Taylor looks good.
Some obvious omissions from this post are Robert Pattinson (too wild), David Beckham (too shaved), and Zac Efron (too High School Musical). Tell us which hot Hollywood hunk you think has the best hair.

Not All Bald Babies Are Boys
Written by Mary Fetzer on August 10, 2009 – 11:02 am -
It happens all the time. Your bald baby girl is dressed entirely in pink, and people still say, “Awww, isn’t he cute?”
You can’t blame them, it’s just difficult for admirers to get past the hairdo. But with a pretty bow in her hair, and no one will ever again mistake your little lady for a boy.
Jason Priestley and Brooke Burke like Lil’ Sugarplum hair accessories for their daughters, Ava Priestly and Rain Charvet. These cute kids lack luscious celebrity locks, but they always look like girls. Ava has been spotted with Lil’ Sugarplum’s Venice Hair Clip, while Rain graced celebrity blogs sporting the Periwinkles Baby Hair Clip.
Lil’ Sugarplum offers “a delicious assortment of baby hair clips, baby hair bows, baby headbands and other little baby hair accessories.” These delightful no-slip accessories are made specifically for little ones — no matter how much hair they have… or don’t have. (The pretty gal above is wearing the Lil’ Sugarplum Bliss Clip in Orange.)
NO HAIR
For smooth and peach-fuzz babies, Lil’ Sugarplus offers Newborn & Infant Stick-On Bows (left).
The soft bows have no metal or Velcro to irritate baby’s tender scalp. Apply the silky bow with a dab of Karo Syrup and Voila! Your bald baby has successfully accessorized!
SOME HAIR
A baby girl with “some hair” is perhaps the most likely to be mistaken for a boy. That fine, wispy hair has a mind of its own and often takes the form of a boyish mohawk.
Control it with the Lil’ Sugarplum Daisies Hair Clip (right). The 1-1/4″ snap-on clip transforms unruly wisps to a stylish ‘do!
TOO MUCH HAIR IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES
Why is it that a baby’s bangs grow at a phenomenal rate while the back — you’ve dreamed of brushing it and putting it in a pony tail — seems to not grow at all? Those long bangs get into her eyes and are often to slippery to hold typical hair accessories. Lil’ Sugarplum clips and pony tail holders are made to stay put.
The Cupid Clip (left) keeps the those bangs out of your baby’s curious eyes, and it won’t slip out. This clip is perfect for Valentine’s Day, and Lil’ Sugarplum has accessories for Christmas, Halloween, 4th of July and just about every other holiday.
Lil’ Sugarplum also offers hats, headbands, necklaces and other fun hair decorations not just for babies but for toddlers, big girls, moms, and even dogs!
Lil’ Sugarplum contributes 2% of every sale to the March of Dimes. Every purchase you make aids the fight to save babies from premature birth!
There’s an old wives tail that says you shouldn’t cut a baby’s hair before her first birthday. I think it may be true! What do you think?

Rock a Headband Like Paris Hilton
Written by Mary Fetzer on July 27, 2009 – 10:58 pm -
No matter how you feel about Paris Hilton, one thing’s for sure… the girl can rock a headband. Paris has single-handedly brought bright, flashy headbands back into style — wearing them for both casual and red-carpet occasions. We’ve seen other celebs copying the look, like Taylor Swift, Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie.
Headbands are available for girls of all ages, from infants to seniors. Here are just a few of your options:

For a day of school or shopping, copy Paris’ snakeskin headband. This easy-to-wear style looks polished, yet casual. Paris opts for a dark brown headband, which shows up nicely against her platinum hair. Brunettes may want to try a lighter color for more contrast. Check out Tano Jewelry Fashion Accessories‘ huge selection of headbands, including this brown snakeskin one for just $11.99 plus shipping.

Here, Paris flaunts a modern retro look with a neon pink bow headband. This youthful look is perfect for the younger set — more mature women might find themselves looking a little foolish in this style and color.
Abby’s Bowtique has a delightful array of big and little girl accessories, like this loopy satin bow headband. It’s available in dozens of colors and costs just $8!

Paris’ favorite headband is the glitzy braided type she wears like a crown. When embellished with diamonds, it’s not an everyday accessory, but there are adorable alternatives in a variety of materials like rope, acrylic and grosgrain. This wonderful Betsey Johnson Taxi Girl Headband is pricey at $56 but features faux pearls, gingham, and an enamel-filled flower charm. Shop Zappos.com for this and other cute headbands.
Tell us: Do you like the headband trend? If so, what’s your favorite look — classic, hippie, or glamorous?
