Teenagers love taking fashion risks. Sometimes it works (doesn’t Selena Gomez always look adorable?), and sometimes it doesn’t (remember fashion bomb Mischa Barton?).  Here are just a few examples of what NOT to wear when you’re a teen model, musician, actress or celebrity of any kind:

Taylor Momsen

When she’s not playing Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl, Taylor Momsen is trying way too hard to look like she doesn’t care about fashion.

The young woman needs a personal stylist… pronto.

Pop superstar Rihanna’s sleeveless top is funky. Her lipstick is gorgeous. The colossal matching sunglasses are fine.

The Kate Gosselin hair (on anyone, ever) is not.

Yahoo’s OMG fashion critics compared Miley’s nasty dress to her famous father’s infamous mullet.

The fishnet stockings and a come-hither pout don’t fool us Miley, you still look like you’re 12.

Emma Stone

The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past actress appears to be channeling an angelic version of Wednesday Addams. The material and design are matronly, and the color blends right in with Emma’s pale skin.

The unnecessary bow around her neck is the only “blue ribbon” she’ll win with this ensemble.

Our kids worry about how they look for school, the mall, the football game… not the red carpet. That’s why my picks for the best-dressed teen celebrities is based on what the stars look like when they’re not modeling for the paparazzi.

#5 Chace Crawford
It’s probably unfair to put Chace Crawford on a best-dressed list. With a face and physique like his, Chace would look chic in a paper bag.

But the Gossip Girl star really does look his best when he’s not filming. Whether he’s wearing a white T-shirt or a Yankees ball cap, Chace drives the girls crazy.

Who else would rock a pair of Diesel Revick 88Z jeans (left) like Chace?

#4 Minka Kelly
Is it possible that Minka inherited her fashion sense from her parents? Doubt it — Dad’s an Aerosmith guitarist, and Mom’s a former Vegas showgirl.

The Friday Night Lights beauty always looks amazing.

Here (left) Minka struts her stuff in a pair of Hudson Signature bootcut jeans. Wow. And her furry friend makes the perfect accessory!

#3 Zac Efron
Zac once said that he’s “an actor who can sing a little bit.” But after his performances in High School Musical and Hairspray, it appears he can do both… and more.

What’s not to like about Zac? He’s talented, handsome, devoted to his girlfriend, has great hair, and always looks fab.

#2 Demi Lovato
Disney’s newest rising star is Demi Lovato. The star of Camp Rock, Princess Protection Program, and Sonny with a Chance is also a rising star on the fashion front.

Demi likes to take risks trying anything from neon pink lipstick to gothic chains and studs.

Her unique style really shines here (left) in this IRO Vardith cotton vest paired with ripped jeans and strappy black boots.

It’ll be interesting to see how Demi transitions from funky teen to young adult.

#1 Leighton Meester
Gossip Girl Blair Waldorf has access to the finest fashions. Sometimes it’s tough to tell if Leighton Meester, who plays Blair, is wearing her own duds or something from the show.

Leighton has superb taste. Here she is (left) out on the town in Phi zip black leather pants and a Proenza Schouler Resort 2010 bag.

Leighton has the best fashion instincts (or maybe the best stylist?) in Tinsel Town.
